Rich folks have weaponised poverty to make poor worship them – Wizkid
Afrobeats star Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has accused Nigeria’s wealthy elite of using poverty as a tool to make the poor “worship” them.
Wizkid made this claim during a social media feud with fellow artist Davido on Wednesday. The ‘More Love, Less Ego’ singer resumed his tirade, asserting that he is richer and more successful than Davido, despite Davido’s wealthy background.
Wizkid labeled Davido a “spoilt rich kid” and claimed the ‘Unavailable’ crooner charges less for performances compared to their peers in the music industry.
On his X handle, Wizkid wrote: “First off, you’re not as fly as me, can’t sing or make music like me, you can’t dress, and you don’t make more money than me. You’re cheap and pull up for less than we do! F*ck you and your dad’s money, we got ours! Every n*gga around you is broke!”
He further criticized Davido’s self-proclaimed title as the “001” of the Nigerian music industry, claiming Davido surrounds himself with poor people who worship him.
“Naija is a place where the rich weaponize poverty so you carry all these broke boys and give them visas so they worship you. Call you 001? The only time you’re 001 is on Instagram! You don’t make more money than anybody in Nigerian music! Everything about you screams cheap,” Wizkid added.
